I'm Chuck. I've been building and painting models for more than 40 years, and I've spent a lot of that time selling to other hobbyists too: wargames, comics, paints and supplies. A few hours at the bench with a kit and a brush is still my favorite way to shut the rest of the world off.
After Dark is the grown-up side of Grimdark Hobbies. It uses the same bench and the same standards, and puts the results on a different shelf. It's mostly a one-person shop here in the Midwest, with an extra pair of hands when the print queue gets long.
Licensed sculptors only
Every figure we sell comes from a sculptor who licenses their work for commercial prints, so every sale pays the artist. The big marketplace sites are full of prints from artists who never approved resale. We won't carry those. These sculptors do incredible work and deserve to be paid for it.
How your kit gets made
Each order is prepared by hand. We offer so many scales that every file has to be set up on its own before it goes into the print queue.
We print on Elegoo machines. The Mars printers handle small scales and quick reprints, and the Saturns and Jupiters take the bigger pieces. Everything is printed in Sunlu dark grey ABS-like resin.
Post-processing is where I get obsessive:
- Three washes in our own resin detergent, then a spin dry
- A wash in non-toxic degreaser to clear out the detergent
- A water rinse to take off any film left behind
- 24 hours in a low-temperature oven to dry the parts out, so nothing leaves residue or discolors during the cure
- A full cure in our 3,600 watt curing oven
- An inspection of every part against our quality checklist
If a part doesn't pass, we reprint it.

Most orders ship within 7 to 14 business days. Your kit arrives unpainted and unassembled, in discreet, recyclable packaging with "Grimdark Hobbies" on the return label. We ship within the US.
